As a concerned citizen and former user of vaping products, I believe it is imperative to provide a comprehensive perspective on this matter.

Firstly, I must highlight the failure of the war on drugs, which has been evident both globally and within Australia. This approach not only incurs significant financial costs for taxpayers but also disproportionately penalizes end-users for minor offenses, while organized crime continues to thrive in a prohibition environment.

As a former user of vaping products, I can attest to their efficacy in aiding smoking cessation.

After ten years of traditional cigarette smoking, I successfully transitioned away from nicotine addiction with the help of vapes. This personal experience underscores the potential benefits of vaping as a harm reduction tool.

Furthermore, the prohibition of vapes would inadvertently benefit the tobacco industry, as

users may resort to traditional cigarettes in the absence of legal vaping options. This would

undoubtedly have detrimental effects on public health and strain the healthcare system in

Australia.

It is crucial to acknowledge that vaping products do not involve the combustion of tobacco; instead, they heat a liquid solution composed of safe and regulated ingredients such as propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, and distilled nicotine. Compared to the myriad of harmful chemicals found in traditional cigarettes, vapes offer a less harmful alternative.

While concerns regarding youth access to vaping products are valid, regulation and legalization offer a more effective solution than outright prohibition. Regulated markets

empower retailers to enforce age restrictions and mitigate the risks associated with underage

use, unlike the current black market scenario.

In conclusion, I urge (the Senate Inquiry) to consider the evidence-based approach of legalizing and regulating vaping products in Australia. This would not only promote harm reduction but also ensure consumer safety and reduce the burden on the public health system . . . I trust that my input will contribute to informed decision-making.
