I am a 49 year old male, I grew up in England and migrated to Australia in 2001 and am now an Australian Citizen. I am an engineer, father and company executive. I became addicted to cigarettes at the age of 18. I was a heavy smoker for most of my life.
I managed to stop smoking for periods of 6-12 months on various occasions from the age of 25-40, around when my son was born and at other periods, but pretty much all it took was one slip and I was back on the cigarettes or mini cigars. In 2020, I made the switch to Vaping with Nicotine based liquid. I stopped smoking cigars and cigarettes, and I have not resumed the habit since.
Vaping, whilst not perfect is significantly better for my health than the 20 or so cigarettes or cigars I used to smoke. I breathe better, I’m fitter and much less likely to be a burden on the health system than if I was a smoker. If there is an outright ban on nicotine vaping, I may quit for a while, however I have been unsuccessful in quitting nicotine in the past, and I am concerned that it will be hard to kick. I know many people in a similar position.
Smoking is worse than vaping for individual health, smoking is a fire hazard, and smoking is more of a burden on the healthcare system and society in general. Please do not restrict access to nicotine vaping liquid and materials to such an extent that my only realistic legal option is to resume smoking.
