Dr. Marewa Glover is a Maori behavioural scientist, and the founder and director of the Centre of Research Excellence: Indigenous Sovereignty & Smoking (COREISS) in New Zealand (funding disclosure), which has an international focus on reducing tobacco related harms among Indigenous peoples.

She received a 2018 Professional Advocate award from the International Network of Nicotine Consumer Organizations. She was a finalist in the 2019 New Zealander of the Year awards. Neither Dr. Glover nor COREISS have any commercial interests in nicotine products.

She is a former chair of End Smoking NZ (2009-18), a charitable trust that lobbies for tobacco harm reduction, and was a Professor of Public Health at Massey University (2016-2018) and Director of the Centre for Tobacco Control Research at the University of Auckland (2006-2015).

Professor Glover’s career is marked by a steadfast commitment to addressing the health inequities caused by smoking. She has championed harm reduction strategies that prioritize empowering individuals to transition away from combustible tobacco. Her work has influenced policies and public health practices globally, emphasizing that vaping, as a safer alternative, is a vital tool in reducing smoking-related diseases and premature deaths.

Her work acknowledges the devastating impact of smoking on vulnerable populations while advocating for access to effective quitting aids like vaping. She highlights vaping's ability to save lives by offering a less harmful alternative to combustible cigarettes, particularly for people who have struggled to quit through traditional methods.
