Professor Nicholas (Nick) Lintzeris - University of Sydney





Professor Nicholas (Nick) Lintzeris is an Addiction Medicine specialist who has been involved for over three decades in clinical service delivery, research, professional education and policy activities in the Alcohol and other Drugs (AoD) field. He is internationally recognised as an expert in the treatment of opioid use disorder, and has clinical and research interests in cannabis and psychostimulant use.

Professor Lintzeris is the current President of the Chapter of Addiction Medicine in the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He is a Conjoint Professor in the Department of Addiction Medicine at the University of Sydney, with over 200 peer-reviewed publications. As Director of Drug and Alcohol Services in South East Sydney Local Health District since 2010, he oversees the provision of AoD clinical services in community and hospital-based settings. In 2011-2013, Professor Lintzeris served as Chief Addiction Medicine Specialist (part-time) in the NSW Ministry of Health, providing statewide clinical and policy leadership for the sector. In 2014-16 he was the Clinical Director (part-time) of the Lambert Initiative in Cannabinoid Therapeutics at the University of Sydney, focusing on the development of research and clinical practice into medicinal cannabis, and he has led several NHMRC-funded clinical trials of medicinal cannabis in the treatment of cannabis use disorder.

Australian National Advisory Council on Alcohol and Other Drugs (ANACAD), that the prescription policy is failing and that the Minister's proposed vaping crackdown will only make things worse.
