"Regulation, not prohibition, of vapes is needed." - Vaping Consumer

I have been a heavy smoker for over 40 years. Over the last 12 months I have managed to reduce from 40 cigarettes a day to 4 or 5, with the aim of stopping cigarettes completely this year. I managed the reduction by using vapes. Initially I used vapes with nicotine but over the last 6 months have been using nicotine-free vapes.

The outcome of the proposed changes will be a proliferation of unregulated vapes being sold in the response to user demands via the channels that already operate for illegal tobacco sales, increasing the risk to those who chose to vape.

The solution is not to have vaping made possible only when a physician agrees.. Many doctors will not agree to doing that, including my own physician. When this amendment goes on to become law it is highly likely that I will return to cigarettes – an outcome that is worse for my lungs (and my bank balance) than legalised vaping. I am not alone in reducing my reliance on cigarettes by using vapes.

Regulation, not prohibition, of vapes is needed. Regulation could ensure the quality of the products being sold, reducing the dangers posed by unregulated products. The sale of vapes – with or without nicotine – should have the same controls as those placed on the sale of tobacco products to make it harder for anyone under 18 years of age to purchase. Packaging and advertising could be controlled in the same manner as tobacco currently is.
