I have been using vape juice since the age of 18 to avoid cigarettes. Of which I had been smoking since the age of 16. Upon trying and failing other methods of smoking cessation, Vaping has been a successful tool for me and millions of others to stop smoking cigarettes. It also takes money out of the tobacco industry and, ultimately, makes a smarter decision for my health and finances.

Restricting access to vaping products through stringent regulations has the potential to give rise to an expanded black market. History has shown that when legal avenues are limited, individuals often turn to unregulated sources, exposing themselves to potentially unsafe and substandard products. This poses a considerable risk to public health, as the quality and safety of products from the black market cannot be guaranteed.

I believe better regulation outcomes will provide Australian’s with a lower risk alternative to smoking that will in turn, lower smoking rates in Australia. A different (and more successful) model has been undertaken in New Zealand - nicotine vapes are sold as adult consumer products from licensed retail outlets with strict age verification. Vape shops can provide expert advice, support, and a wider range of products. Licensed retailers are unlikely to sell to kids if there is a risk of losing their licence and paying large fines.
