Sarah E Jackson 1 https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40474553/ In recent years, the landscape of nicotine consumption has shifted significantly with the widespread adoption of e-cigarettes. Among the most complex and widely discussed patterns of use to emerge from this transition is dual use – the concurrent use of both combustible cigarettes and e-cigarettes. Dual use has drawn intense attention from tobacco control researchers, clinicians, and policymakers, prompting questions about its health implications, behavioural dynamics, and role in cessation or continued nicotine dependence. Despite growing research, 1 consensus remains difficult to achieve, largely due to varying definitions and conflation of distinct behaviour patterns and motives. This issue of Nicotine & Tobacco Research features four new studies that contribute valuable insights to this evolving literature.
