Non-Smoker Asks Government to "DO BETTER" - Vaping Consumer Ally

I have never smoked cigarettes; however I grew up in a household with two smoking parents, and an older sibling who smoked cigarettes.
I have always had an interest in politics and economics, as such I have to say I am quite disappointed in the stance of the Labor government over this issue. The former Government brought in the prescription model for nicotine, which created a black market across the country within months. However instead of reversing this terribly ineffective policy, the Labor government appear to be doubling down on it.
Even as a non-smoker, I can see how beneficial vaping has been. I have met countless people who would still be smoking cigarettes if not for vaping. Many of these people no longer have nicotine in their e-liquid, yet they could be faced with a preposterous fine if they are found in possession of a vape that hasn’t been approved or distributed by the TGA/a pharmacy. Perhaps they should switch their vaping habit to cocaine – the fine is a lot less! The disproportionate treatment of grown adults who choose to vape instead of smoke, compared to that of someone caught with illicit drugs, is ridiculous!
The argument that vape flavours are aimed at children is pathetic. I can go to my local bottle shop and buy Fruit Tingle flavoured vodka. How is that any different to someone wanting to vape musk stick e-liquid? Alcohol is responsible for multiple road deaths per week, domestic violence, assault, as well as health issues – but that’s socially acceptable, so we’ll just ignore that? It makes absolutely no sense!
I really hope that the Government can come to their senses on this matter. Regulate them as consumer goods. Put the tax on nicotine towards education, health and compliance. Stop putting the money into the hands of the gangs who are running the black market!
Even I can see how nonsensical this whole proposal is, and I don’t even smoke! Please show some common sense and actually regulate this properly!! Prohibition has never worked before, and it won’t work now. Do better.
